Welcome to “Mapping Peace Education”!

This project is coordinated by the Global Campaign for Peace Education (GCPE) in partnership with the International Institute on Peace Education (IIPE), the Quaker Council for European Affairs (QCEA), the Peace Education Working Group of the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC), and Education for Global Peace (EGP).

“Mapping Peace Education” is an accessible, online directory featuring country-level profiles of peace education legislation, formal/non-formal developments, key organizations, and historical contributions.  The database is developed to be a vital resource for peace education practitioners, researchers and policymakers.  It is regularly reviewed and updated with volunteer support of country experts.  The site will go live in late Spring / early summer 2020.

Here is a snapshot of the content that will be featured in the country profiles.

Sample Map Images

The images below will give you a sense of what the site will eventually look like and how it will function.  Here is a site that demos the technology in action.

A mock-up of how the map might look. We will develop unique icons.

A zoomed-in view… icons will be clickable and reveal a pop-up with some basic information. The pop-up will link to the full country profile.
An example of the pop-up that appears on the map when clicking on a country icon. These pop-ups are also clickable and will take people to the full country profile.
In addition to the map on the homepage, very basic profile views will appear below the map (along with other search forms). Clicking on these profiles (or via the map links) will open the full country profile.
Full country profiles will have their own pages. Our profiles will obviously have much more data. We are also thinking about what images to use with the country profiles. Our preference is to avoid nationalism, flags, etc. We may go with a stylized map of the country as an alternative.
